INSTALLING THE FORKEEPS MAIL & MESSAGE ARCHIVER VERSION 2.1
...........................................................

Thank you for checking out ForKeeps! We hope you will find it as useful
as many other CompuServe members already have. To keep the downloading
size as small as possible, there is no SetUp program included with ForKeeps.
It is however very simple to install.

Follow the appropriate instructions below if you have no previous version
of ForKeeps installed. If you do have an existing ForKeeps installation
and want to upgrade to v2.1, please see UPGRADE.TXT instead.

TO MAKE A NEW INSTALLATION
--------------------------

    a. Make a separate directory for the ForKeeps program files. You can
call it FORKEEPS but any name will do.

    b. Unzip the downloaded file FK16TL.ZIP into that directory. The
          following files should appear:

          FKEEPS16.EXE Main program
          FKFIL16.DLL File specifications
          L16V20.DLL Licence verification
          TMAN16.DLL Thread manager
          PBROWS16.DLL Browse engine
          CW2ASC16.DLL ASCII file driver
          CW2DOS16.DLL DOS file driver
          CW2FOX16.DLL FoxPro file driver
          CWTPS16.DLL TopSpeed file driver
          CW2RUN16.DLL Library functions
          FKEEPS16.HLP Help files
UPGRADE.TXT How to upgrade to a new version
INSTALL.TXT How to make a new installation
          WHATSNEW.TXT New features in v2.0 and v2.1
          CN13TO20.EXE Conversion program v1.3 to v2.1

    c. Add the main program FKEEPS16.EXE to your program manager.

    d. Please take a look at the Help file FKEEPS16.HLP before starting
ForKeeps - it will help you understand what ForKeeps is all about.
You can run it directly from the Windows RUN menu without starting
	  ForKeeps.

    e. When you do start ForKeeps for the first time, be sure to do the
following before importing your mail and Forum messages:

	  1. Choose FILE/PREFERENCES

Under TAB "Import Options" choose the default message file
type corresponding to your online or offline reader, and
enter the default path to where ForKeeps can find your
message/mail files. You can change these values in the
ImportWizard for each import, but having defaults will make
	     things easier for you.

Under TAB "File directories" enter the path to where you
want the temporary import file to be created. This file can
be quite big (about the same size as the import files you
select for import) so if you have more than one hard disk
drive you should specify an existing directory on a disk where
space is available. The default is the ForKeeps program
	     directory.

Under TAB "File directories" enter the path to where you
want your ForKeeps databases to be created. If you don't
want the database directories to be created directly under
the ForKeeps program directory, you should definitely
specify the path to an existing directory where you want
the databases to be created BEFORE the first import. Changing
this value when you already have existing databases means
that you must move the entire database directory structure
	     to the new location.

	  2. Choose FILE/MAIL BOX SETUP

If you want to import mail messages you must first setup a
mail box. Press INSERT and enter your name as Mail Box owner
name and your mail address as Mail Box address. This step is
not necessary if you do not intend to import mail messages.

	  3. Choose FILE/IMPORT

Now you are ready to import FORUM messages and/or mail
messages. Just follow the instructions in the ImportWizard.

CHECKING FOR SHARE/VSHARE
-------------------------

If you run ForKeeps under Windows 95 you don't have to read the following
regarding SHARE and VSHARE.

If you run ForKeeps under Windows 3.1x however, you must check that you have
either SHARE.EXE or VSHARE.EXE loaded. This is necessary as ForKeeps is a
multithreaded application. The easiest way to test if SHARE or VSHARE is
already being loaded is simply to start ForKeeps. If it runs, everything is
fine and you don't have worry about it.

If it doesn't then you should add a line similar to this in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT:

   C:\DOS\Share.Exe

Reboot your computer to let this command take effect.
